Overview
Role Overview: We are seeking a Locator Technician to support underground utility construction through Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD).
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain HDD locating equipment to track drill head location, depth, and alignment.
- Communicate with drill operators to guide bore placement and prevent utility damage.
- Install, test, and repair buried and aerial fiber lines, supporting fiber splicing and repairs.
- Operate construction machinery like trenchers, plows, excavators, and bucket trucks.
- Set infrastructure such as pedestals, vaults, and handholes while supporting outside plant activities.
- Climb poles and structures, support site restoration, and ensure accurate project markings.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience as HDD Locator or related underground utility role, or technical certification/military service.
- Ability to operate electromagnetic and walk-over locating systems.
- Knowledge of underground utility practices and safety standards.
- Physical ability to climb, kneel, lift, and work in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license, DOT eligibility, and willingness to obtain Class A CDL.
- Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills; flexible to work overtime and varied shifts.
Work Environment & Physical Demands: Frequent physical activity including lifting up to 50 pounds, working outdoors in diverse conditions, and handling heavy equipment. Safety training and compliance are mandatory.
